There are a number of wedding traditions that have been around for ages along with some that have only recently come into fashion. You definitely don’t have to do them all but should choose the ones that have meaning for you and that you want to incorporate into your big day. Here are some wedding traditions you could possibly include in your wedding.
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue
This may be the most recognized wedding tradition of all. You can choose something old such as family heirloom jewelry or your mother’s wedding dress. Your something new could be anything from your hair accessory to your petticoat. For something borrowed maybe your aunt’s pearl necklace or a bobby pin from your bestie. Something blue, which to me always seems the most fun, could be a blue garter, blue shoes, or a sapphire bracelet.
Wearing a Veil
In the past most every bride wore a veil but they aren’t such an expected accessory these days. It’s completely up to the bride. If you always dreamed of walking down the aisle and having your veil lifted once you reached your groom, then make that fairytale come true. If a veil doesn’t match your style and you think it would cover up that amazing hairstyle you have planned, ditch the veil with no guilt.
Not Seeing Each Other vs. First Look
Some couples are adamant about not seeing each other on their wedding day until the bride is coming down the aisle. Others have started a new tradition known as the First Look. Whether you wait so that you can get that perfect shot of the groom’s face as he sees his bride for the first time in her dress walking down the aisle or whether you take first look pictures or even all your wedding pictures ahead of time to save time after the ceremony, either moment will be super special for you.
Bouquet and Garter Toss
Most weddings still implement this fun tradition where we get to find out who the next bride and groom will be, even if it’s only for fun. Guests usually enjoy this event even if they don’t catch the bouquet or garter. Some enjoy it more if they don’t if they haven’t caught the wedding bug yet.
Feeding Each Other Wedding Cake
The real question here is are you going to feed each other gently and lovingly or are you going to playfully cover each other’s faces in cake icing? Every couple has their own style and whatever is more fun for you is the best choice here.
It’s Your Day
